At the time of writing this, August 2025, AI can’t think. It’s a great pattern spotter. It can do rote tasks super fast. It can scrape content from 30 websites and build a table that it would have taken you all day to build. It can write requirements for a new feature or even code the entire app in minutes.
But… AI isn’t aware of anything. It has no sense of context. It can’t tell you what it makes the most sense to build and, most importantly, why. It cannot discern whether a “solution” will create a host of new issues for users. It cannot understand the nuance of a problem that isn’t already well defined. If you explicitly told Chat GPT what the problem is, could it identify a solution? Probably.
The point is getting to the issues themselves is the work. It’s knowing what questions to ask and how to ask. It’s understanding where your users and stakeholders are coming from, emotionally and culturally. It’s understanding human motivation. It’s understanding the context of your organization to get a sense of priority. It’s being able to get to the heart of problems people have.
At this time, gen AI is completely incapable of doing any of that. All that work is still uniquely human.
